“If only I had more time and money, I’d look even better than her.”

In a nutshell, I wasn’t in good shape. My belly hung over my jeans. So, I wore loose clothing to hide that. Loose shirts, jumpers, that sort of thing.

I got feel-bad hormones …

Because I was convinced that I didn’t look very good, I had very low self confidence. I lost the will to wear fashionable clothes and look my best.

Finally, I got so fed up with feeling unattractive that I decided to do something about it. I started looking for ways of exercising without using much time or money.

One thing I learnt for the first time was that to get a great body shape, well defined, I needed to make my muscles stronger. I needed to build more muscle mass. That way, my body shape would improve and my muscles would be firm and fit.

And what’s the best exercise to get that sort of result?

Well … believe it or not, it’s weight training.

Weight training? In what way?

Of course, popular wisdom says you should go and do your weight training in a gym with proper equipment.

But, because of my limited spare time, going to the gym wasn’t practical. Besides, I didn’t want to, even if I could. I wouldn’t have felt comfortable walking into a gym full of people and working out. I didn’t want them to see me in my shorts. I was ashamed of what my legs looked like. So, I wanted to work out in the privacy of my own room.

Of course not! I made many mistakes. I ran into many obstacles. But every time I ran into a difficulty, I studied the subject more. I asked people. I waded through countless websites for answers. I eventually found my own style of working out that was well suited to my personal situation.

There’s definitely more than one type of exercise method to get the body you want.

But one thing for sure is this. A gym user needs a totally different method from a non-gym user. Especially someone working out at home, in a restricted space, with limited equipment. Each of them just needs to find the most suitable way of reaching their individual goal.

Anyway, within a few weeks of taking up weight training at home, I noticed a difference in my body. Even though I was still making lots of mistakes, my body was getting stronger and firmer. Even my waist was getting narrower.

And I had to give away my jeans since they were too big for me now. I was sorry to have to let go of my favourite pair, though. Dark blue, and just the right length for my legs. But then, I wasn’t going to put the weight back on just for the sake of those jeans! (That’d be silly!)

So what did I really get out of all that?

The best part of getting in shape for me is that it makes me feel a lot more attractive. That gives me much more confidence than ever before. I no longer feel envious of beautiful women. That’s even more important than getting my body into shape.

Of course, if I hadn’t made mistakes along the way, I would have got in shape even quicker.

But with all the things I’ve learnt along the way, I’ve been able to put together this workout system. Especially for beginners who are in the same situation as I was a few years back. No time, no equipment, no gym.

Most of the time, an exercise program will claim to be a simple bodyweight routine. But not very far into the routine, they’ll mention an elastic band. Then a couple of dumbbells. Then an exercise bench. And so on.
